TREES

Mostly mature, with a few semi-mature (SM) (oak,
beech, whitebeam). Most are in a belt along the south edge of the park, with
scattered specimens elsewhere. Little understorey under the tree belt.  Ground cover 50% bare.   Considerable area of Irish ivy at upper end, which may need control.

GRASSLAND

Close-mown
amenity grassland. Upper section (east) is sandy soil, looks low in fertility
from the species present. Underlines species are markers for low-fertility,
somewhat acid, soils. Lower parts have less variety of species and are probably
more fertile.
